Chalk Paint, Maple Table & French Graphic = A Day of Fun

In the beginning there was a vintage maple table that needed a makeover!
Now, it's perfect for a side table, but it still needs a little graphic.
I chose this graphic from: http://www.graphicsfairy-diy.com/2011/12/charming-french-bird-tray.html.
First, I tried a Lacquer Thinner transfer, but it didn't work even though I used a toner based copy. Then I wrote the graphics with a Sharpie paint pen. I painted the bird with acrylic paints. I clear and dark waxed the table and graphic after distressing.
It ya'll will please excuse me, it's time to relax in the afternoon sun. Thanks for stopping by today!

The graphic turned out great even though you had trouble at first. I have yet to have that part go smooth either, but one of these days....

I love any type of bird graphic. Everyone always seems to find such nice ones from The Graphics Fairy but for some reason I have had a hard time with it. Thanks for sharing, it's truly a beautiful transformation.

Your table is gorgeous, Betsy. I don't understand why the lacquer thinner doesn't work- I haven't had any problems with it. But you made it beautiful anyway, and in a much more artistic way. :)

Hi there! I just read that you had trouble with transferring your graphic for your table. I struggled with toner-based copy transfers not working (so frustrating!!) until I read online that Kinko's (Fed-ex) copies won't work because of some kind of new technology they use in their printers. I got new copies at the library, and it worked! Just wanted to tell you in case this was what happened to you, too. Happy transferring!

Lovely!! Now I can't remember how you got the image transfered to the table. I see you traced over it with a sharpie, but how did you get the image on the table in the first place? I guess I need to go back and read your previous post again.

Thank you for your kind comments! I appreciate each one! Anonymous, I appreciate your suggestions! I'll try this! When I tried the Lacquer Thinner it left a wet looking ring around my graphic that never dried! I had to repaint the table top. I hope you all have a wonderful week!

My grandma had a table just like that and I had no idea what to do with it, but now I wish I had it! This project would be perfect for our new linky party featuring "Transformations" called Repurpose-Remodel-Reveal, I know our readers would love to see it too! (It starts Friday, March 2nd 2012 at 7:00 am MST and reoccures every 1st and 3rd Friday)
